Job Description

Senior Financial Analyst for provincial government agency client, downtown Toronto.

Job Type: Temporary
Initial Term: June 12 2023, to September 12 2023, with possibility of additional extension.
Compensation: $54.56 Per Hour

Regular Work Hours: 7.0 work hours per day, not including unpaid 1 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid - split between remote-work and onsite at client's downtown Toronto office, on TTC line. Hybrid split to be determined upon placement, with minimum 1 day onsite per week.

Responsibilities Summary:
Responsible for full cycle accounting and analysis of financial statement line items to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial statement balances as a whole.
  • Prepare all aspects of general ledger accounting including monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries.
  • Assist Controller with changes to accounting policies as required under IFRS.
  • Conduct regular analysis of actuals against budget plan, including project budgets, and provide commentary and progress reports.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports and analysis for management, Board committee and Ministry reports.
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual tax filings.
  • Monitor bank balances and prepare cash flow forecasts to ensure sufficient funds to meet operational and capital requirements.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to support efficiency and effectiveness of day-to-day activities including monthly general ledger closing.
  • Provide auditors with financial information supporting annual financial statement audits, internal audits, etc.
  • Assist Controller with implementing control improvements.
  • Review and analyze monthly and quarterly Branch financial results, including leading meetings with Branch staff to assess financial results and variances for use in analytics.
  • Ensure accuracy of financial subledger systems (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets).
  • Additional financial analysis responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Post Secondary Degree in Accounting or similar discipline.
Professional Credentials: Completed or in-progress CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 5+ years of related accounting and financial analysis experience.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public, regulatory or financial sector experience an asset.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
  • Advanced proficiency in MSExcel (will be tested)
  • General proficiency in MSWord, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains, Ceridian and Lotus Notes preferred.
  • Proficient English communication skills, including strong business writing skills and verbal presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management, clients, staff, general public, as well as the Board and Board Committees.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite as required, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to provide 3 qualified employment references who are available to speak with promptly upon request, and may be contacted by either Marberg or the Client.
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory Provincial Government security check, including a Fingerprint Check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
  • Additional satisfactory Background Checks and Technical Skills Evaluations as required.
