Moore Wittman Phillips is looking for an experienced legal assistant to join our team on a full-time basis to work in the areas of corporate/commercial, wills/estates, and other areas (as required). This position will be appealing to candidates with at least 3+ years of experience.
The ideal candidate will be client-focused, detail oriented, and a reliable team player.
Primary roles and responsibilities include:
Assisting lawyers involved in corporate, commercial, wills & estates;
Coordinating meetings in person and assisting with preparation for meetings;
Managing files from start to finish, particularly in the areas of corporate/commercial and wills/estates (including searches, conflicts, retainer letters, opening, organizing, maintaining, billing, reporting, and closing);
Drafting, formatting, and revising email and letter correspondence, memos, agreements, and other documents;
Preparing, maintaining, or correcting closing books and corporate records;
Preparing wills and estate documents;
Preparing applications for probate and administration;
Administration of time entry and billing of client files; and
Performing other legal and administrative tasks from time to time.
The ideal candidate feels comfortable with managing files independently. In addition, the ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and skills:
1) at least 3 years of experience working in a law firm;
2) advanced knowledge of corporate/wills& estates and related legal terminology;
3) highly knowledgeable with PCLaw, SPIN, Corporate Registry; Digital Filing Service; and MS Office;
4) able to work independently, as well as in collaboration with lawyers and other staff;
5) draft and review standard corporate/commercial and wills & estates documents;
6) courteous and professional manner;
7) preparing reporting letters to clients and lending institutions on a timely basis;
8) ability to manage high volume of tasks and files on a rush basis (if needed); and
9) general administrative tasks as required, including office and file management.
CORES accreditation would be an asset.
